Capterra listing / GetApp vs Capterra
GetApp vs Capterra for SaaS Vendors and Which Listing to Pay For
One owner, one review pool, one click budget. What actually differs between the two listings, what the shared ad campaign costs, and where a small vendor gets more for the money.
Not ready for a $500 a month click budget?
A $49 listing here is live on submit, at a fixed price, in front of buyers comparing tools.
Different award formulas, so rank can still differ by site
The short answer
GetApp vs Capterra is not a choice a vendor has to make. Both are free to list on, both are owned by G2, and they share one profile, one set of reviews and one pay per click campaign. The real decision is whether to fund that shared campaign, reported at a $500 a month minimum, or put a smaller fixed budget somewhere buyers compare tools until you have the 20 reviews either site needs before it ranks you.

Is GetApp the same as Capterra?
Behind the scenes, nearly. Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice were built up by Gartner as three storefronts on one engine. A review left on one shows up on all three. A pay per click campaign set up for Capterra also serves clicks on GetApp and Software Advice. G2 bought all three in a deal that closed in February 2026, and from September 2026 a new product starts from one submission form in the G2 vendor account, with checkboxes for each site.
What differs is the shop window. GetApp leans toward feature comparisons and integrations, Capterra toward reviews and category lists, and each site runs its own award. Because those awards weight recency and volume differently, the same product with the same reviews can be a top pick on one site and on page two of the other.
How much does GetApp advertising cost?
There is no list price. Placement is a second price auction per category, so a click in a crowded category such as CRM costs more than one in a quiet niche. Vendors and agencies consistently report a $2 minimum bid and a $500 a month minimum budget, and that budget is spread across all three sites.
The arithmetic is what decides it. As an illustration, at $5 a click a $500 month buys 100 visits. If 5 percent of those start a trial, you paid $100 per trial before anyone talked to sales. That can be a fine number for a $300 a month product and a terrible one for a $19 tool. Run it with your own click price and trial rate before you sign up, and compare it with a fixed price placement such as a $299 featured week, where the cost does not rise with every click.
One practical warning from vendors who listed through the new G2 flow: as of late September 2026, some could not reach the older Capterra back office where pay per click campaigns are configured. If paid clicks are your plan, confirm you can open a campaign before you count on it for a launch.
How do I get listed on GetApp?
Create or open your G2 vendor account, add the product once, and tick GetApp, Capterra and Software Advice in the same form. Fill every field you can: pricing, deployment, integrations, screenshots and a plain description of who the product is for. Approval typically takes from a day to about ten days. Our Capterra listing guide walks through the fields and the review milestones step by step.
The listing alone will not get you seen. Both sites sort their category pages by sponsorship first and reviews second, so a new product with zero reviews and no budget sits near the bottom. That is the gap most small vendors are really trying to solve when they compare the two.
How do I become a GetApp Category Leader?
GetApp's Category Leaders ranking needs at least 20 unique reviews published on GetApp within 24 months, reviews from North American users, and evidence on your own website that the product has the category's core features. Products are scored up to 20 points each on ease of use, value for money, functionality, customer support and likelihood to recommend, for a maximum of 100. Niche tools built for one narrow industry are excluded.
Capterra's Shortlist uses the same 20 reviews in 24 months floor plus a US presence. Since the review pool is shared, one review campaign moves you toward both awards at once. Ask customers right after a win, such as a finished onboarding or a renewal, and then repurpose each new review into social posts so the same quote works for you twice.
Which one should a small SaaS vendor pay for?
Neither, at first. List free on both through the one form, start collecting reviews, and keep your click budget until the product has enough reviews to convert the traffic you would be buying. A paid click that lands on a profile with no reviews is the most expensive click in B2B software.
Once you pass 20 reviews, test the shared pay per click campaign for one month with UTM tags and a strict cost per trial target. Until then, a fixed price listing where buyers browse by category and compare tools head to head gets you seen for less. GetApp vs Capterra questions vendors ask
Is GetApp the same as Capterra?
For a vendor, mostly yes. GetApp, Capterra and Software Advice share one backend: one product profile, one pool of reviews and one pay per click campaign that serves all three sites. They differ in site design, audience mix and their own award formulas, so the same product can rank differently on each.
Who owns GetApp and Capterra?
G2 owns both. It bought Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice from Gartner, and the deal closed in February 2026. Since September 2026, new listings for all four sites start from a single submission flow inside the G2 vendor account.
Is GetApp free for vendors?
Yes. GetApp lists paying and non-paying products, so a basic listing, collecting reviews and replying to them cost nothing. You pay only if you want sponsored placement, which runs on the same pay per click program as Capterra.
How much does GetApp advertising cost?
GetApp does not publish a single price, because cost per click is set by an auction in each category. Vendors and agencies report a minimum bid of about $2 a click and a minimum budget of about $500 a month, and because the campaign is shared, that spend also buys clicks on Capterra and Software Advice.
How do I become a GetApp Category Leader?
You need at least 20 unique reviews published on GetApp within 24 months, reviews from North American users, and a minimum normalized score in five areas: ease of use, value for money, functionality, customer support and likelihood to recommend. Each area is worth up to 20 points, for a maximum of 100.
